The Leading Strong Podcast Episode 19: Season 1 RECAP Part 2 – 4 Types of Management and MI 4-5

Welcome to The Leading Strong Podcast hosted by 34 Strong Co-Founders Darren Virassammy and Brandon Miller. This episode aired on 12/09/20. You can listen to the Full Episode HERE.

The #1 indicator of whether a manager will or will not engage is if they feel like their job is aligned with the mission

In this week’s episode, hosts Brandon Miller and Darren Virassammy recap Season 1 of the Leading Strong Podcast by walking through the 4 Types of Management and connecting these to the Manager Intelligence Skills of Inspiration and Inclusive.

The 4 Types of Management

  1. Authoritarian – Command and Control
  2. Permissive – Non-directive and Unclear
  3. Uninvolved – No control or Boundaries
  4. Authoritative – Assertive and Invested (Strengths-Based Style)

We can jump back and forth between these styles in our lives, and may even have a tendency to over-correct. Our hosts explain how we can use these skills to evaluate ourselves to see where we fall within this matrix of Management, and create healthy habits as Managers.

The 4th Manager Intelligence Skill – Inspiration

Individual team members react differently in times of crisis and change. Managers who understand the individual needs of their team members have valuable information to align their communication and instructions to meet the style each team member responds best to. Growing this skill will improve productivity on your team and improve communication and collaboration between team members.

The 5th Manager Intelligence Skill – Inclusive

Team members look to their boss to be a source of strength and guidance in a time of uncertainty. Job shifting, remote working, social distancing and increased workloads all have an impact. Growing this skill of integrity can build trust with your team and forms strong bonds.

Key Question

How are you connected to the mission of your organization? How are you focusing on making that awareness of the mission for your team?
